This year 14 pairs of Lesser Black backs, 6 successfully fledging 8 young, 1 pair of Greater Black backs fledging 2 young. Over 100 pairs of Herring Gulls, of 33 nests monitored 19 successfully fledged 33 young. Lower success rate this year due to increased levels of predation at egg and young stages, and the effects of heatwave conditions. (D Eva)

Downderry: 26 Mediterranean Gulls flew west before 07:55. (A Payne) seawatch 05:00-10:00: 100 Manx Shearwaters west some heading back, 1 Sooty Shearwater,1 Great Skua, 2 Common Scoter, Gannets, 3 adult Med Gulls, 3 GBB Gull, 15 Black-headed Gulls, 12 Cormorants, 1 f Kestrel, 3 Oystercatchers. Constantine Bay to Trevone: As I neared Trevone a small group of Gulls on the rocks below me were mostly Mediterranean Gulls (about 12, mixed adult 2s and juvs). An adult and juvenile Sandwich Tern there too. Further along a ploughed field had a large flock of Gulls but unfortunately the heat haze made it difficult to be sure of the id of all of them. I reckon at least 30 were Mediterranean Gulls. Finally, almost into Trevone another loafing flock of Gulls on the rocks had another 20+ Mediterranean Gulls. (J Turner)
