Walmsley Sanctuary (CBWPS Members Only): Female Blue-winged Teal still, 9 Tufted Duck, 4 Wigeon, 6 Pintail, Shoveler, Gadwall, Greylag, Bar-headed Goose, 22 Shelduck, 5 Ruff. At least 7 different Chiffchaff in the boundary hedge, a classic Siberian Chiffchaff still and calling occasionally near the small hide. Some birds showing face resin stains, also a striking grey and white Chiffchaff (photo), could it possibly be ‘Eastern ‘abietinus’ or an intergrade between ‘tristis’ and ‘abietinus’ the bird did call and it sounded something like the usual ‘hweet’ though flatter, less rising and more abrupt? Watched tucked in close to the right hand side of the Juncus patch immediately in front of the stones as viewed directly out from the hide. Also 2 Ruff, c24 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Snipe, 1 Lapwing, Teal, 20+ Shoveler, 6 Gadwall, 6 Pintail, 1 Bar-headed Goose, 15 Sand Martin, 1 Swallow, 1 Greylag Goose, Canada Goose and Little Grebe. Pendennis, Falmouth: 1 drake Mallard, 1 Common Scoter flew out of the Carrick Roads, 3 Whimbrel on the south side, flew towards the point. 2+ Sandwich Tern out in Falmouth Bay including one resting on a floating pallet, 2 Razorbill distantly, 2 Gannet. Rock Pipits 3+, Kestrel, singing Chiffchaff and at least one Bottle-nosed Dolphin heading across towards Swanpool direction. (D Chaney & W Chegwidden)
