Garden Listing 12th February 2021

Porthcothan: This is my garden list to date that runs from 1 Jan to the present. The garden is separated from the North coast by arable fields. Some of these are managed for Corn Bunting so have been planted with sacrificial crops. We are also fortunate that the field immediately adjoining the property is barley stubble and currently seems a magnet for birds: Red-legged Partridge, Pheasant, Great Northern Diver, Fulmar, Gannet, Shag, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine, Jack Snipe, Snipe, Kittiwake, Black-headed Gull, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Woodpigeon, Feral Pigeon, Barn Owl, Short-eared Owl, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Carrion Crow, Raven, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Skylark, Wren, Starling, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Redwing, Robin, Dunnock, Meadow Pipit, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Linnet, Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting (46 species). Constantine: The local farmer was ploughing a near field yesterday afternoon for the first time for a while. 500-1000 mixed gulls, impossible to count, following the tractor, plus 9 Buzzards, and 2 Little Egrets. The gulls were mostly Herring and Black-headed but with many Mediterranean and 10+ Great Black-backs and 5 Lesser (new for list making 50). (Tim Pinfield)

Coverack: Finally nailed a flyover 2nd winter Lesser Black-backed Gull for 44. (Dan Beadle)

Garden Listing 11th February 2021

Praa Sands: Yesterday, 10th Feb, added two more species to the list: 48 – 2 Razorbill and 49 – small party of Common Scoter, both out in the bay. (Matt Southam)

St Keverne: Up to 31 species now with Starling (1st Feb), Meadow Pipit, Herring Gull, Long-tailed Tit (4th Feb) and Jay (10th Feb). (Helen Norton)
