Most acorns are carried off but also buried near by, as in our lawn.  Normally, the jay is a very secretive bird, I very rarely see them in spring or summer, but every October, depending on the acorn crop, they come in to town in some numbers, sharing the acorns with wood pigeons, ie fifteen pigeons in one tree, two days ago. (R Phillips)
