Penzance: After two years of poor crops, the Holm oaks in town have many acorns this year.  As a result of this, the local jays are busy caching them.  Impossible to know how many birds or where they have all come from but there is a continual stream of them to be seen from our windows, up to four at a time. Most acorns are carried off but also buried near by, as in our lawn.  Normally, the jay is a very secretive bird, I very rarely see them in spring or summer, but every October, depending on the acorn crop, they come in to town in some numbers, sharing the acorns with wood pigeons, ie fifteen pigeons in one tree, two days ago.
