Rosannon Downs: 1 Corncrake early this morning, seen well but briefly, ran across fire-break. (C Selway)

Falmouth, Swanpool:  2 Great Crested Grebe,  2 adult Mute Swan + 3 cygnets (4th predated, probably by a fox), large interesting mix of young ducks caused by Mallards interbreeding with other ducks, 2 Cormorant on island. (E Tackley)

Chyandour, Penzance: 1 Short-eared Owl in off the sea around 14:30hrs. (DS Flumm)

Land’s End: 1 juv Rose-coloured Starling and 1 Corncrake, plus 6 Stonechat, 1 Raven, 8 Curlew 1 possible Lapland Bunting. (A Hartley – more here, P & H Taylor) Also still 1 Yellow-browed Warbler.

Windmill Farm: 1f Merlin, 1f Marsh Harrier and ‘large numbers’ of Golden Plover and Swallow. (S Russ)

Pendeen Watch: 9 Chough, 2 Raven, 1 Sparrowhawk,  2 Kestrel, 3 Pied Wagtail, 30 Meadow Pipits, 1 Water Rail, 4 Goldcrest, 1 Blackcap, 1 Chiffchaff and 1 Wheatear. (A Hartley – more here, I Kendall) Also Pallas’s Warbler reported still present in gorse by track from Enys at 18:20.

Pendeen: 1 heard-only Yellow-browed Warbler in Calartha Farm copse (only called once), 4 Goldcrests in Pendeen Stores copse and 3 Goldcrest in Pendeen churchyard. (A Hartley)

Tony Mills

Our colleague,Tony Mills,  suffered a heart attack whilst on a birding trip in Sulawesi on 7th September. He was yesterday airlifted to Singapore where he is undergoing surgery at the Raffles Hospital. On behalf of all the CBWPS members we wish Tony a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in Penzance very soon.
