Late news, 8/5, Scillonian, Lands End to Penzance: 3 Puffin, 223 Manx Shearwater, 49 Gannet, 18 Guillemot, 2 Razorbill, 5 Fulmar, 55 unidentified distant auks 55. Virtually all the shearwaters and other seabirds were heading West along the coast. Surprised to see several large groups of up to 10 auks together flying in a tight string of birds. Also 2 small waders rapidly passed the boat probably a mile+ offshore also heading West. Mounts Bay: 1 Great Northern Diver. Battery Rocks: 9 Purple Sandpiper (feeding, resting and preening) , 2 Whimbrel on the small island, 2 Turnstone and 1 Grey Heron flew past. Penzance: 2 Swift. Rame Head: 1 Black Throated Diver (in Polhawn Bay),1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Fulmar and c30 Gannet. (C Ellis)

Porthgwarra: 2 Canada Geese, 1 Arctic Skua and 3 Puffin flew west plus Manx Shearwaters, auks (mostly Guillemot), Fulmars and Gannets passing continually in low numbers. (DK Parker)

The fate of a Montagu’s Harrier that didn’t make it beyond Malta, see at c4.55 minutes. Note the missing flight feathers in the Croft Pascoe bird, it too may have had a close encounter on its migration north.
